I've tried air horns before. They are just too damn:loud, to the point that they come with a hearing damage warning if someone is standing too close.
You say that like its a bad thing :-)If you use your horn the way it is meant, as a safety device, then that split second delay between hitting the button and when the air horn comes on as the system pressurizes, can eat up a lot of tarmac under your wheels at speed.
Since when do horns make your car stop? It doesn't seem that important until you realize how important fractions of seconds and response times are when you need your horn in an emergency.
That split second (which is infinitessimal if you install them right) is nothing compared to how long it takes someone to register that you are honking at them, where you are, and to realize what to do to stop you from honking at them. At least that's been my experience. No one has ignored these horns the way they did the stockers, so I'm happy.
